BUSHFIRE APPEAL 2009
There has been a wonderful response from Anglicans across Australia, parishioners, parishes, schools and organisations, to the Bushfire Appeal 2009 of the National Home Mission Fund, or as it is better known, the Anglican Outback Fund. Almost $250,000 has been received. The Appeal was requested by the Primate with the intention to provide on-going care for families and communities affected by the terrible fires. One hundred and seventy three people lost their lives. There has been an initial disbursement totalling $210,000 of appeal funds to the three rural dioceses where lives and properties were lost. The dioceses receiving assistance are Wangaratta, Gippsland and Bendigo. The Diocese of Melbourne is not calling on the appeal funds having run its own appeal.
PRESSING NEEDS
The major work of the Anglican Outback Fund is to support the under resourced remote area dioceses of the Anglican Church of Australia in their mission and ministry to Outback Australians. Some of the projects being supported in 2009 are listed on another page. The focus of the Anglican Outback Fund must now turn to its primary task of raising funds sufficient to support the projects of these dioceses. This is not going to be an easy task considering the affect of the global financial crisis and the fact that Anglicans have responded already to the Bushfire Appeal. Please give again.
BROCHURES AND POSTERS
Colourful brochures and small posters have been produced and are available from the Chair of the Anglican Outback Fund, see the address on our Contact Us page. Please keep the work of the Anglican Outback Fund before your parish and diocese. Support of the AOF is a way for Anglicans to help Anglicans in the Outback receive ministry and pastoral care. The brochures and posters have been prepared and donated free of charge to the AOF by generous sponsors in keeping with the fund’s policies.
MELBOURNE
SUPPORTS THE A.O.F.
A small committee has been set up in Melbourne under the chairmanship of Bishop Gerald Beaumont to promote the work of the Anglican Outback Fund in the diocese.
We welcome this initiative and commend it to other dioceses. A number of Anglican schools in Melbourne are being approached and presented with the challenge of caring about Outback Anglicans.
